can't

The artist in focus today has truly shown how CAN’T is not a word that belongs to art. Hirotoshi Ito belongs to a family that has been manufacturing grave stones for over 130 years in Japan. His family of stone masons have given him a legacy that allows him to create marvels through stone. He majored in mixed media which means he incorporates his experience with ceramics, pigments and metal in his works. His art pieces have humour one of the hardest emotions to capture in art. His inspiration is Salvador Dali and RenĂ© Magritte. He collects stones from his walks along his neighbourhood’s riverbed and then carves and combines them with other materials to express a sense of wonder and humour. In his own words he says, “Although I work with various kinds of stones, most of my work consists of optimizing a stone’s original shape.A smile on the beholder’s face is the main motivation for my work.”
